It’s half-term. If you’re lucky enough to be going away for some Autumn sunshine, then you might be getting out the Summer sandals.
We’re not going anywhere. The kids are down at my in-laws for a few days. Then it’ll be the usual mix of excitable plans at 7.30am, slogging it out on trains, a massively over-priced lunch, where an ice cream and packet of Mini Cheddars would have kept them happy, followed by a stress-related headache at 5pm and a slightly hysterical ‘NO BATH STRAIGHT TO SLEEP TONIGHT’ at 7pm.
It generally involves my uniform shoe of choice, the white trainer. Goes with everything, inoffensive, kind of cool, totally comfortable.
But I think I’ve found the chic replacement. And they will work with every kind of half-term activity – whether it’s with the kids or if you’ve managed to slot in a cheeky night out with mates in the evening.
They’re the ‘Ormond’ suede ankle boots by Dune Black, Western in style, but with a multi-buckle fastening that I just find really appealing in footwear. The toe is a kind of almond shape, which feels totally current but crucially won’t make you sob inwardly with every park visit. And the heel height, well hello! It’s a mid-heel making walking OH SO EASY. Museums? Piece of cake! Amusement park? NO BIGGIE.
I’m wearing them in the images above with my new ‘Betty’ maxi dress from Lily & Lionel. All the heart eyes. I was meant to be saving her for my fairly sizeable birthday coming up in, sob, two weeks – but I couldn’t resist. I love the way these boots dress ol’ Betty down a bit – I mean you could totally flounce around the park if you fancied, but I wouldn’t risk the climbing frame in this look.
Where you could take those sort of child-related chances is by wearing them with the classics: black jeans, striped knit and slouchy jacket.
They’re comfy, cool and totally practical but add a touch of sophistication to whichever outfit – and whatever activity – you’ll be taking part in this half term.
This post was in collaboration with Dune, but all words, thoughts and styling my own. Photography all the work of Amber Rose Photography.
