Despite the fact I work in fashion, sales don’t really do much for me. I would never, just for example, queue up at 5am on Boxing Day waiting for the stores to open.
And even online, I might have a half-hearted scroll through, but, meh.
This year though, there were two pieces I’d had my eye on all season and promised myself that if they went into the sales, I’d snap them up.
And they did!
One was a longline chambray shirt from J Crew which had sequin tuxedo stripes down each side. I love the preppy look of this, but also knew it would work under a crew neck during the day – which meant it didn’t need to be saved for going out. Price per wear and all that.
And the other was a jewelled khaki dress coat from the ASOS White label which had more than a hint of Marni about it and was something I knew I would wear year after year. I loved the colour – khaki is such a brilliant colour to team with berry and black, so a perfect Winter buy. Plus it was HALF PRICE!
Since going freelance, I’ve really worked out what I need in my wardrobe and have realised that things I buy have to work for lots of different occasions to justify their place. So here’s how I’m making the most out of both my sales buys – for day and night.
THE J CREW SHIRT
- DAY: Trousers / Trainers
- NIGHT: Cropped trousers (in the sale!) / Fluffy clutch / necklace (similar)
THE ASOS COAT
- DAY: Leather-look cropped trousers / Maroon boyfriend jumper (similar) / Boots
- NIGHT: Dress / Court shoes (similar) / Bag (similar)
Did you manage to find the pieces you wanted in the sale? Let me know.
Have a lovely weekend everyone x
