When I worked in an office, getting dressed was a relatively stress-free experience as I had childcare and half an hour to myself before dashing off for the train.
Now amidst the chaotic ‘routine’ that is my mornings, I am somehow expected to get myself and the kids dressed and ready for the day as well.
I’ve developed a non-office / freelance / school run uniform of trousers, jumper and trainers and for time and ease of execution, my hair is thrown on top of my head every morning in a bun. But I am SO BORED OF A BUN.
If, like me, you’re stuck in a hair rut but don’t have time to try anything fancy, here’s some pictures I’ve been pinning. Hair-spiration if you like – and don’t just look at the lengths of the models hair because these looks can be adapted for every hair type.
OK so it’s a bun, but this is sleeker than your average. Side part hair, scrape both sides back and twist into a small bun, securing with pins. This one is perfect for me on a particularly messy morning. Simply do two plaits from the front on both sides and secure both at the back. Doesn’t matter if it’s not perfect, that’s the point.Scrape hair into a low ponytail with your fingers so it’s not too ‘done.’ As you’re tying the bobble around, loop it around to create a bun but then pull some of the hair out to form the ponytail. Loosen hair around your face with fingers so some strands come loose.Total bad-hair / grown-out roots distraction – use a turban-style hairband and either leave hair loose or tie into a messy low pony tail. It’s so time to rock a beanie. Plus, the easiest way to get out of the house quickly. This season make it all about a knitted beanie with an pom pom. Zara have some great versions in really wearable colours.

Or you could chop it all off like I did…lol! I’m not yet long enough to do any of those styling options but my beanie and I are best friends on those colder days x
