I know I’m not alone with this, but generally by 9.30am it’s as though I have done a full day’s work. Snack boxes, uniforms, breakfasts, teeth cleaning, socks on, no, get your SOCKS ON, toilet, potty, bag check, where’s your jumper gone? Blah, blah, blah.
Shower? Great. Hair wash? WIN. Make up? Meh.
So in an attempt to make my life as easy as possible (and not terrify the neighbours / other school run mums by going bare-faced), I’ve tried to minimise my make up routine to five products.

They are:
Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream Compact SF 25 in light medium
This is brilliant for getting rid of redness, blemishes and I even use it under my eyes as a catch-all cover up. It gives a really great coverage to the skin too, making whatever base you choose glide on smoothly.
Charlotte Tilbury Wonder Glow Instant Soft Focus Beauty Flash
Oh my, how much do we love this range? Answer, a LOT. This truly is a wonder product, giving your face an instant Instagram-style filter. It blurs and highlights, all at the same time giving your skin a radiant, luminous look. Expensive, but SO worth it.
Eyeko Black Magic Mascara Drama & Curl
First off I love the packaging on this really black mascara, but secondly the brush has been really well designed – just the right size curve to get in all the corners. One slick means you’re ready for the day, two means you’re smoking.
Bobbi Brown Brightening Blush in Bronze 1
Disclaimer, I was sent this to test a few months ago, but can’t find it online except in the US. Part of the Bobbi Brown Surf and Sand Collection, this is so much more than just a blusher and not JUST a bronzer. The mixture of the two makes it perfect for adding an illuminated, natural glow to your face. I also use it over my eyelids.
Fan-girl alert: I *may* have purchased this after discovering it was Alexa Chung’s favourite lipstick. But it’s cheap and it’s a great red – slightly orangey in tone (although not as much as another fave, Mac’s Lady Danger), but very hydrating, which means reapplication isn’t a chore.
Also, if you go for a bold lip, you don’t need to worry about your doing your eyes, just slick it on and go without mascara.

My make up routine has always been a 5-step programme, if that! Is that bad?! A touch of clique foundation and blusher, a bit of No.7 mascara, and a slick of lip gloss if I want to look done.. But I recently bought a red lippy in order to shake things up a bit – for far too much in Space NK I hasten to add, the sales woman totally saw me coming plus my toddler had just thrown all his apple slices and biscuits all over the floor so I just said yes, I’ll buy whatever!! Anyway, I keep trying the red lipstick on but find it so bold I can’t decide if it’s just doesn’t suit me or if I’m just not used to it. Should I persevere?

When you’re not used to it, it can seem a bit much – but persevere!! A red lip and bare eyes looks really cool!
