The ratio of my heels to flats is diminishing every season. I LOVE shoes, but flats have become my go-to everyday saviour and I try to make them work when I’m going out at night too.
One person who ditched the heels ages ago is Hannah Rochell, InStyle’s Fashion Features Editor and founder of the genius blog En Brogue. Her chic style and flat-shoe, cool-girl know-how has made her one to watch on the fashion circuit (and I should know, until recently she sat a few rows away from me at work!) so it was only a matter of time before the blog became a book.

And LOOK, it has! Filled with her style tips, shoe-spiration and her own beautiful watercolour illustrations, En Brogue the book is the last word in comfortable cool.

Hannah says: I’ve never really been into heels, but a couple of years ago I decided to get rid of the few pairs that I did own and only wear flats from now on.
I was fed up of being uncomfortable, falling over and not being able to run for the train when I was late, not to mention the fact that I MUCH prefer the aesthetic of flats anyway.
And although I work in fashion – which was pretty much the only reason I own any heels at all – it’s become increasingly easy to live by my self-enforced rule in the past few years.
That’s because flats have become more and more important to catwalk designers, who are using them on the runway and making them an integral part of their collections.
In turn, this has forced the high street to put more effort into designing its flats too, so there’s never been a better time to ditch the heels.”
So who better to ask about Autumn’s must-have flats than Hannah? Here are her favourite, affordable styles for the new season – exclusively picked for MMM.

I’m loving the flat trend too! I love brogues and pointy flats the most. Thanks for pointing out this blog. I’m definitely going to follow it.

I love the look of all these, partic the Clarks ones, but what about socks? Always black?
Erica
No! Have fun with them. Hannah always has the best printed socks on, Topshop do GREAT socks and they always have a multi-purchase offer. This season’s berry shades would look great with that bottle green colour!
