Sorry about the radio silence. It has been one of those weeks where work / social and kids life has all converged in one messy, busy, bump along the road to Christmas. In short, I am knackered.
The kids have had colds, work has been manic and I have been out a lot – which is 100% more often than usual.
It’s also proved to me that despite feeling otherwise, I am actually not 21 years old anymore. The wine at 11pm that seemed really fun and in-the-moment, is a huge regret at 6am when the baby refuses to accept that it’s NOT time to get up.
A hangover, like jet-lag and child-induced sleep-deprivation, involves comfort-dressing, Coca Cola and carbs. But you don’t need to slob out completely. Picking the right style kit will help you feel way more pulled together – even if it’s nothing like how you’re feeling.
Leather panel leggings and a slouchy knit (wear over an ironic tee like the one below) will give you a streamlined but cosy outfit – and trainers are an essential. Remember the beanie hat too, because it’s pretty much nailed on that you won’t have had time to wash or do your hair. This is also where the genius Pret-a-Powder by Bumble & Bumble comes in – equal parts dry shampoo, style extender and volume so perfect if you want a messy bun.
I have it on good authority that Bobbi Brown’s Tinted Eye Brightener is the big daddy of dark circle removal. Use this and try out the Max Factor Eye Brightening Mascara, which has metallic elements designed to complement your eye colour. Red lips are an instant distraction from tired eyes, I love Red Sinner by Lipstick Queen.
And finally throw on a statement coat. This one from Topshop comes lined in fleece – and it’s currently in the sale. Plus leopard print makes everything better.
