Finding versatile occasion outfits (in association with Next)

Occasion wear is a tough nut to crack. Often you know you’ll only wear something a couple of times, so it’s hard to get the motivation to spend fortunes on one dress.

Over the past couple of months I have looked at various options for varying budgets – because we all want different things from our going out out looks.

For this post I have teamed up with Next, who are all about creating a versatile occasion wear wardrobe that will take you to multiple events this summer.

Their current collection has absolutely tons of pieces that would work across a variety of dress codes – from feminine, romantic dresses to colour pop separates that will help you make a statement.

They asked me to style three completely different looks and add my personal styling tips – so here are the outfits.

Yellow is THE stand out wedding guest colour of choice this season (hello, Amal Clooney!) and I LOVE this pretty broderie lace dress in a vibrant mustard shade.

I kept the sandals and the earrings the same colour as the dress for a block colour statement, but added a simple white blazer to emphasise the yellow.

The straps are thin spaghetti style on this dress, so you do need a strapless bra.
Create a contrast with on-trend lilac earrings (like these) – lilac works beautifully with yellow.

How much do I love this skirt? A-line, flattering around a curvier bum and with a sexy neon zip detail all down the back, this is one skirt that works as well with a simple tee, flats and denim jacket as it does with this navy lace top.

I pick out the predominant dark shade of navy to team with it – but the fact there is a textural difference in the lace and the satin floral adds interest. I also added polka dot court shoes to ramp up the print drama.

Wear with a navy and white Breton stripe tee and flat sandals for a cute holiday look.
This skirt would also work with knee high boots and a burgundy knit for the winter.

The ultimate in dress it up, dress it down style, this pom-pom trimmed cotton style is a glamorous holiday buy that would look just as great for a summer event.

The dark floral pattern adds sophistication, while the pom poms add femininity and a bit of romance. Also, the pom poms create a hemline focus, so you definitely don’t want anything too fussy on your feet to distract.

I kept it simple with these chic nude sandals, but tan flats would also be perfect for a more dress down look.

If you don’t like your arms, wear over a lightweight short or long sleeved white tee – or throw a leather biker jacket over the top.
Add a statement belt and make a feature of your waist – leather or fabric print styles would add a lovely contrast to the pattern on the dress.
