My love for a neon light is not a new thing. In fact I discussed creating a bespoke design here – before realising quite how expensive they can be. You have to treat it as you would an investment work of art – and price it up / save for it accordingly.
Now there’s a new company for me to lust after – and it’s affordable! Say hello to Bag & Bones.
Run by sisters Gigi and Cavanagh Foyle (a former scientist and lawyer), Bag & Bones was founded after Gigi spotted a gap in the market for kid and planet friendly neon lighting.
Their cool designs are actually a combination of flexible neon tubing and light-emitting diodes, which basically means they emit very little heat, are durable and far less likely to break as they’re not encased in glass. You can just plug them in too, no need for electricians.
Gigi says, “I studied science at University and I’ve always been particularly interested in green energy. Our dad is somewhat of an environmentalist and we spent our youth listening to him lecture us on turning the lights off and the effect of energy use on our wonderful environment. So, when it came to the neon, we wanted to find a solution – the neon feel, without the neon gas!
“We get very inspired by living in London – there is so much beautiful art in everything from music to fashion. And at the moment we are doing a collaboration with interior design duo 2LG which we are very excited about – stay tuned to our Insta feed to see more.”
The ladies also offer a hire service, so you can borrow their cool lights for events, parties or even weddings.
I absolutely love them. Check out their site and the rest of their designs here.
