I always thought wearing black and white would make me look as though I was wearing uniform. Probably because from the age of four to sixteen, it was indeed my uniform.
Now I fully appreciate the beauty of monochrome, without feeling as though I should be heading to Miss Humphries’ physics class (and believe me, NONE of us wanted to go to Miss Humphries’ physics class).
I might not do double denim very often (or, never), but I’m a BIG fan of anything broderie anglaise, so here I am doubling up the lace with an old favourite and a bargain new find.
The top from Iris you’ve seen before. Yes, it might be slightly on the expensive side but man, oh man I wear it an awful lot. It’s so good for layering as well (and you don’t really need to iron it, give it a shake and it’s pretty good to go!)
And this skirt is a La Redoute bargain. Pull-on maxi style (with a slight elasticated back) and WITH POCKETS, it’s a no brainer of an easy, summer piece. I also love it here in yellow. In fact I couldn’t decide which to buy.
Black and white, plus double lace – dream duos I love.
Now pass the gin n’ tonics will you?

Hi Erica,
I love the broderie top and how you have styled it on your blog and Instagram over the last couple of months. I want to buy it, but am unsure about which size to go for. I now notice that there are only S and M sizes left.
I like the fit of yours as it appears on the loose size and wondered which size you have as you appear to be a similar build to me?
Many thanks,
Jan

Hi Jan, Yes I went up a size as I prefer it slightly oversized so this is an L but I would try the M as it is generous. It’s such a good buy! x
Caroline
Is the top from Iris true to size? Thanks so much! X
Erica
Hi Caroline, yes it is! It’s such a good buy! x

I’ve always avoided black skirt and white top after wearing it in my 20s and being mistaken for a waitress. Not the look I was going for on a date! That said I could well be persuaded by this outfit. The skirt is amazing.
Erica
Ha ha! Well I was the same because it was my school uniform for YEARS! The skirt is lovely – and have a look at it in yellow too! x
