Five reasons to shop at … Ted & Muffy

It’s a first for Five Reasons, but this post is dedicated to a British footwear brand. So new in fact, it only launched last week. But you might recognise the people behind it as it has been going for quite a while under another name – it used to be known as Duo Boots.

Called Ted&Muffy, my interest was piqued by their totally individual approach to their products.

They have in-house designers and the whole vibe is fairytale – which, let’s face it, you instantly get from boots named Fable or Huntsman and shoes named Belladonna.

So here are five reasons to take a look…

1: THE FOCUS IS ON BOOTS, LIKE THESE KNEE HIGHS – PERFECT FOR AUTUMN’S SEVENTIES STYLES…

2: THEY HAVE A WIDE ARRAY OF CALF SIZES AND WIDTH FITTINGS FOR EVERY PAIR OF SHOES OR BOOTS…

Surely this is just a rebrand of Duo with many of the same products as far as I can see. Not a new brand at all.

You’re right Debbie, Ted & Muffy is the new name for Duo x

      It’s Duo rebranded x

It’s Duo just rebranded. Ted and Muffy are the founders of Duo. This isn’t a new brand at all just a re-brand. I’ve been a customer since the mid 90’s.

Ted and Muffy are Duo rebranded. Ted and Muffy are the names of the Duo founders.

This is DUO but its DUO with a very stupid new name and about £100 added onto the price. Loyal Duo customers are up in arms and I’d warn anyone considering buying from Finger and fluff or whatever they have called themselves, this company has no regard for your custom or your loyalty. You’d be better looking for dup boots on ebay.

Hi Sara, thanks so much for your comment – you’re definitely not the only one who feels this way. It’s really interesting to see how a brand’s change of name and direction can cause such a strong reaction for their customers x

Its not the change of name or the change of direction. Its the fact that they have put about £100 on every pair of boots. This is a specialist brand for fat women and thin women and non fat and non thin women with funny calves. They provided a unique product for many years and in doing so built extreme brand loyalty from its customers. That’s been dismissed -ignored and forgotten by the directors. My guess is that this is a big misjudgement and the company will not survive losing most of its customers. Of course I don’t know what DUO’s finances were like. It may well be that their former business model wasn’t successful at all. But I can’t see the image led hike in their prices alongside a diminishing customer base will do them any good. I think that while demand may have proved pretty elastic when they were the only company shipping big boots it will be less so now.

    Hi Erica,

I was never a fan of Duo, it smacked the cheaper end of the market, i just looked at Ted & Muffy and was impressed as the prices are lower than what i would normally pay but still looking good, i have just read many negative posts about your new site which makes me wonder, unless the quality is higher than Duo to set the price, i will think for a day or so if its worth placing an order, but at first glance i like your website and styles, was i just a snob before ?

Hi Lorraine, thanks for your comment. Yes they’ve had a bad reaction from Duo customers on here who say they’ve put their prices up alongside the name change. I have to say though, I am delighted with the boots I got and highly recommend them x

As a one-time customer, I can certainly say: do NOT order from Ted & Muffy if you value your money! I ordered a very expensive pair of boots with wider calves and received a nightmare of a fit. These people have no idea…. I have now had to take the boots to a local shoemaker to get them fitted – making them even more expensive than they were. All because I wore them for a few hours indoors on carpets so they would ‘t take them back. Hell will freeze over before I even look at their website again.

What a nightmare Charlott, i do normally stay away for the cheaper end of the market but i was undecided when i saw this ” new ” website as the boots looked good, when hearing they were Duo in the past i stopped from placing my order. what a shame the owners have not learnt any lessons , you can not sell cheap products at bumped up prices, we all look for quality first and most of us are willing to pay for it,
customer service is also very important ie The White Company are second to none, i never hesitate buying from them as they honer every sale with no quibble returns if any problem regarding their products, no matter what the reason let alone a dissatisfied customer’s because of bad workmanship .
Learn your lesson Ted & Muffy bad reputaions take years if ever to turn around

I have bought Duo Boots for several years and they fitted so well that I culd just go online and order my foot size and calf size and you woudl know that they would be perfect. Since they changed to Ted & bloody Muffy, I have ordered 4 pairs, sent them all back (delivery and return free of charge), called them, discussed the changes in design, got some advice, ordered 4 more pairs and … sent them all back. I couldn’t even get my foot In some of the boots.
I am sooooo disappointed wih this rebranding! I am not sure what they are trying to achieve but they are definitely succeeded in alienating another loyal Duo customer
