My Style | Deckchair stripe dressing

Shirt dress, £49.99, H&M (not online ANNOYINGLY, but in-store now. Code 81857) | Sandals, Finery (now on sale) | Clutch, Coast (old season, similar here) | Gold necklace with circle detail, Crystal & Stone | Longer chain and three-band ring, both Z for Accessorize| Black ring, Monica Vinader

I’m not sure whether you’re aware of my stripe obsession. I mean, I keep it so quiet and on the down-low. I never, for example, reference my need for weekly ‘stripe’ washes, nor the fact I *may* own eighteen navy and white striped tees.

ANYWAY. I have developed a thing for deckchair stripes, more specifically, stripes that look as though they belong on a deckchair.

This shirt dress is from H&M – in-store now, NOT online which I know is massively frustrating and can only apologise about. Rant alert: aside from an inexplicable delay on getting clothes purchased online out for delivery, I really don’t understand why H&M’s online site isn’t utilised as a flagship store to sell everything, including the Premium, Trend and Conscious ranges. If you look hard enough, you can find the little gems in-store, but rarely online. It’s really irritating.

But back to this…

I fell in love with the rich colour combination of navy, gold and mulberry. Plus, the striped hoops are of varying thicknesses, so flattering on curvier hips like mine. The straight up and down shape is also a revelation – and actually a lot more slimming on a pear-shape (like mine) than sometimes a classic Fifties in-at-the-waist dress style can be (I often feel much wider in a prom dress style). The semi-kaftan sleeves are also great if you’re not currently showcasing guns as toned as Michelle Obama. Ahem.

I’ve teamed the dress (weirdly called a ‘top’ in store) with my chunky Finery sandals and a textured clutch by Coast for a more grown-up look (all details beneath first image), but you could easily chuck it on over a swimsuit on holiday and head off for lunch.

Here are a few other deckchair striped frocks I love. Let’s hope the sunshine continues a while longer, because I am all about sitting outside in it …

Eighteen striped tops? Wow. Lovely dress, the pink stripe adds a real prettiness. Love a little pink in anything. Anyways, just wanted to say I LOVE the Marks Indigo sandals you recommended and they are commented on by all my friends. The zip at the back means they never cut my heels (and everything cuts my heels) which was a major plus. Best sandals ever, thank you!

I love this dress, a real find! I just bought a little linen-look deckchair striped sundress from H&M on an impulse as I passed it on the way out – there’s some great things in H&M at the moment, if you hunt about!

I love this dress Laura!! I just have awful legs so it’s too short on me, but so great – plus it looks super expensive xx

Love the blog and as a curly girl thanks for the product recommends – always appreciated!
How tall are you as it is hard for me to gauge if these dresses will be too long – the other stories blue one is on it’s way but i suspect it may need altering or sending back – I’m 5’4.
I have a striped top drawer – it is a top drawer but also a drawer with nothing but striped tops in it – don’t worry, you’re among friends!

No worries Pip! I’m 5’5 so not that much taller than you. And DELIGHTED to hear about your stripy top drawer!!

Hello Erica, thanks for keeping my faith strong – the dress arrived and I don’t look like a dwarf wrestling with a tent, it is possibly the most flattering dress I’ve ever bought! For anyone reading this I am 5’4 and this length of frock still gives a nice glimpse of ankle! We are immigrating to Australia soon so am putting together a “fresh, new start” wardrobe – as if I needed an excuse! Followed your link and will be picking up a pair of M&S sandals tomorrow – somebody stop me…..
