NEW ‘MAKE ME LOOK AWAKE’ GLOWING MAKE UP ALERT

Even though I own a lot of make up, last week I bought two items that I’d seen brilliant reviews for and which – frankly – my make up bag was lacking.

Part of their ‘Enlighten’ range, Estee Lauder’s EE (Even Effect) creme is a skincare corrector that is designed to be worn as a base for your foundation. But I’ve been wearing it as a sheer base and then topping up with concealer where I need more coverage. It’s great for a glowy complexion without too much sheen, plus it has an SPF of 30. There are only three shades and I went for the ‘light.’

And the Clarins Instant Concealer has been shown a lot of beauty blog love from the likes of Pixiwoo, with them raving about its eye bag coverage. Count me in for some of that action. A cross between YSL Touche Eclat and a thicker, creamy concealer, it’s a really great product for people like me who haven’t slept properly for almost five years (thanks kids). You only need a smidge dotted at either side of your eyes then blended in with your ring finger. I bought the lightest shade, 01. Thumbs up.

THE JELLY RABBIT: A GREAT NEW ONLINE STORE FOR KIDS PARTY BAGS

CIRCUS-KIT-1-e1405423212679-480x440

I love living where I do. There’s a lovely, eclectic mix of mums at Charlie’s school, ranging from those who work full-time, to others like me, who freelance from home. And since he started there, I’ve been completely blown away by the number of local mums who have an entrepreneurial streak, setting up businesses from their kitchen tables before racing down to school at 3pm. I’m sure every area is the same – but I feel very lucky to be surrounded by women in mine who completely inspire me!

I bumped into local mum Sarah last week while grabbing a quick coffee and she told me about her new online kids party emporium, The Jelly Rabbit.

It’s designed to take the stress out of organising all those little bits for party bags – as well as decorations. You can buy kits, bags for specific types of parties (with perfectly appropriate bits inside) or even decorations for tables. There’s nationwide postage on everything too. Check them out.

THE DESIGN HOUSE, A NEW BRAND TO WATCH….ON INSTAGRAM

suki bomber 2

I was sent a message about The Design House, a mother and daughter team in North Wales who have been quietly making cool faux fur jackets and selling through their Instagram account.

So I checked them out – and noticed that their first customer was model Suki Waterhouse – who was pictured in hers in September last year!

And now business has gone mad. Former fashion and textiles lecturer Sally Pattinson always made clothes for her daughter Lettie, who’s now in her third¬† year of university. In fact some items were so popular with Lettie’s student friends, Sally would run up a job lot and sell them all.

They’re doing a roaring trade selling through their social media accounts – and student Lettie answering customer emails in between lectures – but they do have plans for an e-commerce site.

Prices start at £70 Рand they sell a mix from traditional colour combinations to full-on colour. Email them for more information.

HYACINTHS MAKE ME HAPPY

Image-1

Forgive the picture of the wire dangling in the background, but it’s a very simple thing that makes me happy on a {five star wednesday} – and that’s a gorgeous bunch of hyacinths.

Currently on my desk and smelling divine, I just love them.

I have also just invested in The White Company’s ‘Hyacinth’ scented votive candle which is also beautiful *breathes in deeply*

Erica, just wondered if you’ve ever done a beauty piece on paraben free cosmetics. One of my friends has just been diagnosed with kidney cancer, fortunately caught very early by sheer luck but it’s made me think about all the things I inadvertently put in to my body via my beauty regime. Even things like the nail varnishes I use – I’ve been merrily wearing nail varnish while being pregnant and now realise perhaps brands that are 3 free would perhaps be more appropriate to use, Do non toxic varnishes live up to their mor toxic counterparts?!

Hi Emma, I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. That’s a really good question, but probably one more directed to a specialist who would be able to answer confidently. Caroline Hirons is my go-to on all skincare related issues and I bet she has addressed this issue on her blog X
