It is September, which for me means I can officially start busting out the coats I started buying at the end of July. True story.

This one from Autograph at Marks & Spencer has been in my wardrobe from the moment (OK, the day after) I spotted it online, but it had been in my mind since I saw it in the Vogue magazine edit of the brand’s new season collection MONTHS ago.

I have wanted a navy blue coat for, well, ever. For some reason it just feels more modern than black. But I couldn’t find one last winter (and couldn’t afford the Chloe version). These are some from my Pinterest inspiration boards.

I wanted one that would work with smart pieces, as well as in a more dressed-down way with trainers and flats. Now I’m freelance I need to figure out my chic, off-duty look that works for meetings as well as school runs. The M&S version is boyfriend in shape, but slightly oversized and feels great on.

Now I’m totally on the navy thing. I’ve even ordered this one from Wallis.

A great coat is surely the easiest way to look pulled together in a nano-second.

Which is brilliant news as I have bought *quite* a few this season, including another showstopper from M&S and a great trench from Zara.

I will show you over the next couple of weeks – stay tuned for #coatwatch.

Here are some other navy beauties that made the MMM shortlist.

Lovely coat Erica, I saw this one the other week. I’m slightly broad shouldered and so really not sure what coats work! Just brought a fab black duster coat in New Look that is slouchy enough not to make me look like a javelin thrower 🙂 It won’t see me through the winter though.

Random question, can you recommend any nice hotels to stay in in the Cotswolds? it’s our 10 year wedding anniversary and for the first time in seven years me and my husband are going to be child free for a weekend! Not sure what we’ll talk about……the boys probably! xx

Hi Emma, I’ve seen that duster coat, it’s a goodun! Hotels. Well, I’ve stayed at Cowley Manor which was beautiful for a romantic weekend away. Also, check out Barnsley House and Cotswolds88, which I haven’t stayed at, but really want to!
