Modelled by a stellar line up including Cara, Jessica Stam, Malaika Firth and Jourdan Dunn, the monogrammed  blanket cape was one of the serious style stand-outs at the finale of the AW14 Burberry Prorsum show.

The Burberry blanket cape has just landed on the brand’s site now, while Matches have started taking pre-orders on the £895 colour-block poncho.

And even though it’s been scorchio,  style influencers including Olivia Palermo have already been spotted wearing theirs.

We all may have several picnic blankets at home that do the same job, but would they look as chic as this? Doubtful.

The blanket cape has started to make an appearance on the high street. And YES I would suggest getting yours now for those in-between season days where it’s too cold for a tee-shirt, but too warm for the new coat you’ve already bought (and yes, I have).

A tip: Don’t go too Clint Eastwood with your outfit. Try belting it over a tonal midi dress and wearing with 70’s style chunky knee high boots. Or keep the look muted – just like the M&S ensemble below – by teaming with slouchy trousers and a crew neck knit. Make it more modern (and day-friendly) by wearing with trainers.

Here are some of my favourite from the high street picks:

Yours is the first post I’ve seen featuring blanket coats. It’s the sort of thing I’d spy and buy, Then the family would need the next six months to catch up with me whilst asking if I had landed a part in a Western. Bless ’em.

I hear what you’re saying Sarah, but I reckon steer clear of denim and they won’t be able to!!
