So apparently, it’s almost Summer. I say almost because facts speak for themselves and I wore tights (100-denier) two days last week.
Commuting and being a fashion editor means wearing trainers à la Melanie Griffith in Working Girl to walk to work in, combined with a swift change to on-trend heels once sitting at my desk.
Trainers are acceptably cool at the moment, but I wouldn’t feel quite right being in the office wearing them.
Having been off work for the past year having the kids and living in Converse or Havaiana flip flops, heels are now a complete headache. And actually, I can’t pretend to be OK in them any more. When the weather’s hotter, is there anything worse in the world than hot, sweaty, swollen feet trying to walk in heels? No there isn’t people, let’s not pretend anymore!
But as ballet pumps feel a bit passé now, I am fully embracing the mid-heel – as championed by Marni and Prada.
Easy to walk in all day (including the walk from the station), they still give you a little bit of all-important height but – wait for it – they’re actually comfy!
Plus there are enough colours and textures on the high street for you to feel vaguely hip while channeling your inner librarian.
These are some of my current picks – can’t decide which to buy. You?
