MMM: 10 of the best no-diet required dresses

You would have thought that after Carol Vorderman wore it, the Stella McCartney optical illusion dress – first worn by Kate Winslet – would have died a style death.

But no. Clever panelled dresses are all over the high street and perfect for that office/night out/wedding wardrobe conundrum.

They are also pretty much the perfect figure fixer for all shapes, thanks to some clever stripes and shading.

Rule of thumb, bands of colour or black around the waist give that corseted, nipped-in look, while black panels down each side make the body look inches slimmer.

Here are 10 of the high street’s best:

Carlotta dress French Connection £110

Colour block dress Warehouse £70
Secret Support contrast panel dress Marks & Spencer £69
Principles by Ben de Lisi at Debenhams £60
Panel dress Marks & Spencer £49.50
Graphic colourblock dress now £125 Karen Millen
Coco satin dress £90 Oasis
Tweed shift dress £299 Jaeger
Jonathan Saunders/EDITION for Debenhams £65
Dotty tweed dress £195 Whistles
