MMM: Proper mint peplums

It was one of the main trends at last night’s Met Gala in New York, with Mad Men’s January Jones in yellow-peplummed Atelier Versace, Eva Mendes in an orange Prada peplum and Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara wearing silver Marchesa column dress with peplum.

This dress has just gone into Zara:

Zara, £49.99

Great for adding curves and bizarrely, perfect for disguising lumpy thighs while drawing attention to tiny waists.

Which means, BASICALLY, they work on skinny girls to add shape and curvy girls to emphasise the hourglass.

They are also brilliant for adding a modern touch to your office wear.

Here’s a shoot I did with the very talented Luke Newman, with some of my top high street picks of the peplum pops.

Top row (left to right): Cream lace peplum top, £24, Next ; Black peplum top, £30, Gok at Sainsburys ; Leopard print peplum skirt, £32, Lipsy

Bottom row (left to right): Navy blue dress, £42, Closet at Fashionunion.com ; Metallic leatherette top, £59.99, H&M ; Camel peplum skirt, £45, Warehouse.

And here is a really cute top I spotted in Primark that would look brilliant with jeans and sandals.

Peplum print top £12 Primark

And if you’re really clever, like Geneva from the brilliant A pair & a spare blog, you could try making your own DIY peplum skirt:
