Before I start this post about new label RooBea, I have to admit that the designer is my v clever BFF.
Jeannie has taken the upcycling trend and created a range that works with her love of vintage fabrics along with some seriously clever embellishment skills.
The result is RooBea, for all mini-fashionistas in search of quality unique pieces with hand-stitched, retro styling.
She selects each piece from vintage fairs, antique stores and private collections, evaluating not only the look and feel of each garment or piece of fabric, but also the condition, so you can be assured of the quality.
Jeannie says, “We love taking plain, machine-made garments and transforming them into something special by adding a big dollop of personality. Once they’ve been outgrown they are a perfect keepsake.
They can also stitch bespoke designs, so you can get in touch if you have an idea for a perfect gift, or a special occasion.
RooBea always use recycled clothing and fabrics. This limits the waste involved in manufacture, and prevents unwanted clothing from ending up in landfills. They also use eco-friendly packaging materials.
And 10% of all sales goes to an international aid & development charity – making a RooBea garment a really special gift in many ways.
I have two personalised RooBea tops for my kids and know I’ll have them as a keepsake forever.
Jeannie is now based in New Zealand but ships internationally and her store is here on Etsy.
